This diagram describes my system as of April 2006. The system includes seven speakers, a surround sound processor, three amps, powered subwoofer with subwoofer EQ, 32" HDTV, upscaling DVD player, universal DVD player, DVD recorder, S-VHS VCR, HD digital cable box, and wireless speaker. Note that in this diagram, any copy-protected VHS tapes played back in the VCR would experience video anomalies (brightening and darkening of the pictures, etc.) because the VCR's signal passes through the DVD recorder. Because the antenna for over-the-air HDTV broadcasts is routed through the VCR and to the TV, commercial VHS tapes could be viewed using the VCR's RF output and the TV's audio output to the SSP.

There have been several very nice upgrades to the system over the course of 2004 and 2005. The addition of an HDTV, replacement of an old amp with a pair of monoblock amps, arrival of a very nice new surround processor, and addition of an upscaling DVD player have really elevated the system to a level that I'm really pleased with. The diagram looks very complex (as does the mass of wires behind the cabinet), but with the MX-700 remote we're able to operate it very comfortably.
