Looking for someplace to find good do-it-yourself speaker sites? Need to find some obscure device code for the Model 1050's remote? Don't know what meter to get from Radio Shack to calibrate your system, or where to find the Video Essentials or AVIA setup discs? The "gunslingers" in the Outlaw Saloon forum have posted a lot of good links, but it's easy to lose them in old posts. Below is a collection of those links; it will be updated and pruned from time to time. (That's the plan, at least.)
The Pre/Pro and Receiver Comparison Chart Chart developed during the design of the Model 950 and Model 770 comparing features available on a variety of pre/pros and receivers
DVD Player Comparison Chart Chart similar to the pre/pro and receiver chart, comparing several currently-available players
Chroma Bug Article Article at Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity that first documented the chroma bug in DVD players
JP1 group group of users of remotes related to the Radio Shack 15-1994 who use the remote's "jp1" interface to directly program the remotes; also available are the group's database and files
Home Theater Master Manufacturer of the 950's remote, which is a re-badged SL-9000. The SL-9000's manual is available online, and can be a useful resource for 950 owners as it offers more detail on the remote's capabilities. As a general rule, notes in the manual referring to the LCD will be replaced by feedback from the LED on the 950's remote (the 9000's LCD was replaced with an Outlaw logo and red LED on the 950's remote).
Note: These thread links are still being updated, as some were caught in the forum archiving recently and are now broken links.
950 remote trick... a handy macro idea for changing inputs or enabling stereo bypass
DTS vs Dolby Digitalbroken link includes very good post by Stuart M. Robinson near the end of the thread
Remote control is very hackable thread with a lot of good info on the 1050's remote. Includes info on the volume punch-through (the 993 code) and the reset code (981) -- DO NOT USE THE 981 CODE!
The information below can be found here, as well as some additional tricks.
To post a link like this, put and around the link (like www.yahoo.com to get www.yahoo.com) or put the link in the first brackets (like this to get this).
To post an image, the image needs to be available somewhere on the Internet (you'll need a URL for it, like http://www.outlawaudio.com//images/950-front.jpg) -- put the URL between in your post -- would produce .
